In March, Crystal World Founder and Geologist, Tom Kapitany, set off on an incredible 20-day expedition through Morocco. Morocco’s rich geological heritage has made it a popular destination for geotourism, attracting visitors worldwide to explore its fossil sites, mineral deposits, and stunning geological formations.
Tom’s travels led him to some of the most renowned fossil locations, including the Ziz Valley, Rissani, and Erfoud—the main fossil areas. As one of the world’s most important sources of fossils, Morocco’s geological landscape is diverse, with formations dating back to the Precambrian era. He also visited the Diacalymene fossil trilobite locality in Alnif and the Devonian fossil beds, spending over a week in the field uncovering fascinating fossils including:
Ziz Valley, Rissani, and Erfoud:

Tom also explored iconic locations such as the Blue City of Chefchaouen and the bustling fossil and stone markets of Rissani and Erfoud. He visited small rock shops and met with local dealers, purchasing scientifically significant specimens.
